17.4. - 31.10.2010 Egon Schiele (1890-1918) exhibition in honour of his life and work a celebration of the 120th anniversary of his birth The exhibition shows examples of the works of genius of the artist of Czech, Austrian and German descent and recalls the artist's relationship to the town of Český Krumlov. In the exhibition we also remember those friends with whom Schiele spent time in not only Vienna, but also in some cases in Krumlov – e.g. Anton Peschka, Erwin Osen, Antonín Josef Trčka, Gustav Klimt, Richard Teschner, Arthur Roessler and so on. 17.4. - 31.10.2010 ROBERT SCHAD Through the Line steel sculptures Robert Schad's artistic style centres around dialogic interactions between opposing forces. The attempt to reconcile the seemingly irreconcilable is what drives him forward. His sculptures appear to be simultaneously open and closed, dynamic and static, light- and heavyweight, unstable and stable. This is not least dependent on the specific properties of the material used and the way it is processed by the artist. Regardless of their specific attributes - be they wall- or floor-mounted, individual pieces or multi-part works, large-scale indoor pieces, outdoor sculptures that make a major claim on space or small works presented on plinths - all of Schad's sculptural works are made of solid square steel bars with cross-sections ranging from 45 mm to 160 mm, whereby the size of Schad's hand was the determining factor for the smallest bar size. Regularly changing exhibitions of classical and 20th century contemporary art are on view alongside a permanent presentation on the life and work of Egon Schiele together with an exhibition of his works.
The centre makes an important contribution to international understanding and cultural exchange through activities such as readings, concerts and performances together with providing studios for artists from east and west.
